Charity / CIO Application

If your annual income exceeds £5000 or you intend to register as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation, you must register with the Charity Commission. This can be a daunting and complex process. Furthermore, you cannot call your company a charity unless it is registered with the Charity Commission.

Use our Central London address as your company’s registered office and the service address of your directors, shareholders, company secretary (or partners if you are forming an LLP). Prevent personal addresses from being available on public records and avoid making your company and your company officers vulnerable to unsolicited mail, unwanted visitors, and even identity theft. The service includes expert guidance to assist you with the process, including:

  • Choosing between the foundation model or association model for your CIO
  • Drafting your CIO's governing document
  • Completing Trustee declaration forms
  • Completing and submitting the application form and any other relevant documents to the Charity Commission
  • Assistance with any questions from the Charity Commission regarding your application

Please be aware that registering a CIO is not a quick process. The Charity Commission can take several months to process an application.

By registering a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO), you will combine the benefits of limited liability normally only available to companies registered at Companies House and the recognition of the Charity Commission. You will only have to submit annual accounts to the Charity Commission and not Companies House. Only organisations registered with the Charity Commission can include the word "Charity" in their name.

Use our expert Charity Accountant partners to prepare the documentation to register your Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) with the Charity Commission. They will help you decide upon the most appropriate structure for your charity and the most suitable constitution. You will only be eligible for registration if your turnover exceeds £5000 per annum.
